Flathead Valley Information & Links
The Flathead Valley is located in the northwest corner of Montana, and is known as the recreation (and fun) capital of the state. Surrounded by three majestic mountain ranges, Flathead Valley is the home of small towns, clean air and friendly people. Kalispell, located in the center of the valley, is the commercial hub and county seat. Further north is Whitefish; a small recreational town nestled at the base of the Big Mountain Ski Resort and along the shores of beautiful Whitefish Lake. Columbia Falls is known as the gateway to Glacier National Park. Lakeside, Bigfork, Polson and Somers are pleasant towns that border Flathead Lake. These towns continue to maintain their original character and charm through past years of growth and growing national recognition.
The Flathead Valley is known nationwide as an all season authentic recreational hotspot. Glacier National Park and surrounding wilderness areas provide a variety of options for anyone looking to get away. Popular winter activities include snowmobiling, downhill snow skiing or snow boarding on the outstanding Big Mountain or Blacktail Mountain. For the adventure seekers there are more than 3 million acres of wilderness that surround the Flathead Valley. The wilderness offers activities such as: cross country skiing, climbing, kayaking, hiking, fishing, whitewater rafting, hunting, horseback riding or simply enjoying nature. Furthermore, neighboring Glacier National Park, known as crown of the continent, is more than 1,000,000 scenic acres. This pristine park exemplifies nature in its truest form. Summer offers refreshing activities such as water sports on Flathead Lake, Whitefish Lake, Lake Blaine, Echo Lake, Swan Lake, Ashley Lake, Little Bitterroot Lake, McGregor Lake or Foys Lake. Take your pick! The valley is not lacking golf courses either; there are over nine championship courses to choose from.
In fact, once you come here, you’ll find that in summer, winter, fall or spring you wont have enough time to do everything the Flathead Valley has to offer!
